How to help with the Mississippi Canyon 252 – Deepwater Horizon Well leak off the Gulf Coast

  • REPORT OILED WILDLIFE: 1-866-557-1401
    If you see birds or other wildlife affected by the Gulf oil spill, call the Wildlife reporting hotline Individuals should not attempt to capture the animal.
    -crude oil can be harmful it if comes in contact with human skin
    -the animal may be scared or injured and bit you
    - you may accidently hurt the animal you are trying to help.

    BP has established a process to receive and review submitted suggestions, on how to stop the flow of oil or contain the spill emanating from the Mississippi Canyon 252 well. Proposals are reviewed for their technical feasibility and proof of application.

Get Involved-Volunteering to help wildlife impacted by the oil spill

1. Donate to organizations that help save the wildlife impacted by the oil spill.

2. Volunteer for clean up efforts.

• Skilled in wildlife observation and tracking (bird-watchers, naturalists, or sportsmen).
• Knowledgeable about the Gulf Coast and its waters.
• Know many of the species of birds, fish, turtles, marine mammals and other animals that will be at risk from the oil spill.
• Preferably local to one of the surveillance locations.
